Ivan Himanen, RA, Principal Architect

Ivan Himanen is the Principal of Himanen Architecture PLLC. Born in Helsinki and raised in New York City, he has a broad range of experience across architecture and related disciplines, from residential to city planning. He has renovated apartments in Manhattan, designed office towers in Philadelphia, designed a 3,000-seat theater in Greensboro, NC, and planned a new neighborhood in Queens. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union School of Architecture, a Masters Degree in City & Technology from The Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, and is a registered architect in New York State.

Marina Himanen, Architect SAFA, Principal Designer

Marina Himanen is the Project Designer of Himanen Architecture PLLC, overseeing all projects from design through construction. Born in Moscow, she has over three decades of design and management experience across three countries, including stints at Juhani Pallasmaa’s firm in Helsinki, Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates, and SKOLNICK Architecture + Design Partnership. Some of her notable projects include the restaurant Brasserie 8 1/2, the 770 Broadway Wanamaker Building lobby, and multiple single-family townhomes and countryhouses across the northeast US. She holds an M.Arch from the Moscow Architectural Institute, and is a member of the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA). She is renowned for her hand drawings.
