This site sits near the end of a dirt road aptly named Sunset Boulevard, which faces north-northeast on the slopes above Willowemoc Creek, one of the vital rivers of the Western Catskills. The client is a single artist looking for a permanent residence and studio. The house will be constructed of structurally insulated panels (SIPs), a load-bearing, airtight panel system which greatly reduces energy costs and construction time. The SIPs forces the building massing to be simple. The house will be oriented toward the northern views, have an open dining / kitchen / living space, a loft, and a rear deck. In the future, the client has an eye toward adding a stand-alone sauna.
