An enterprising client initially turned to us for help legalizing this structure on their property in Parksville, NY. The structure began its life as a shed, accessory to a single-family house on the property, but over time the main house was demolished, opening up the opportunity to re-classify the leftover shed as the lot’s principal dwelling. This turned into a bona fide design effort, with us and the client collaboratively inventing methods to reinforce the house’s foundations by temporarily lifting it on stilts, designing an efficient interior layout, adding electricity, and selecting an all-wood-plank interior finish. The client added an exterior gravel patio and did the construction themselves.
