NYC Central Synagogue is located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan at the corner of Lexington Avenue and 55th Street. In 1998, a fire on the roof of the building collapsed and completely devastated the interior of the main space. The basement spaces were badly damaged by flooding. In the process of rehabilitation the technical spaces of the basement were converted into a large banquet room with a stage. In order to help host big events, one of the existing alley ways was covered by a glass roof to form a lounge.
Location: Manhattan, NY
Status: Completed
This project was designed by Marina Himanen while at Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates Architects.
