Originally built in 1933 as working-class housing, this townhome has seen Astoria grow into a bustling neighborhood with a high concentration of young professionals. The owner, a prominent set designer, wanted to update the building to match this transformation. A proposed gut renovation involved adding a story for a studio, bringing more light inside with generous glazing on the front and rear facades and skylights on the roof, and opening up the interior. We brought the project through Design Development, including a set of bid drawings, at which point the owner decided to complete the project with reduced scope.
