770 Broadway is part of the historic Wanamaker Department Store building that occupies a whole block next to Astor Place in Manhattan. It is the entrance and the lobby to all the office spaces above the street level. Formerly a single door, the renovation visually opened up the lobby’s presence at the street level with three illuminated arches and a large curved glass canopy that sweeps across. The sweeping arch theme continues into the lobby with new floating curved fluted panels that screen AC equipment and light fixtures. The existing bookmatching marble panels were salvaged and relocated to accommodate the new double height space of the lobby. The warmth of wood paneling and backlit grilles balances the stately white marble creating a contemporary and elegant space.
